Characterization and simulation of geometrical defects induced by thermomechanical phenomena in metal additive manufacturing EBM.
Powder bed additive manufacturing processes are innovative processes for the production of complex and dense geometries with good mechanical properties. However, some geometries, such as overhang volumes, still pose a challenge to manufacture and can result in non-negligible geometrical defects. Based on numerical simulations and experimental validations, the aim of this work is to understand the reasons for the appearance of macroscopic geometrical defects in order to provide better quality of the produced parts.
